I have been wanting to visit Mary Todd Lincoln’s childhood home for the longest time so today the husband and I set out on a journey to Lexington. It was a wonderful day visiting a town enriched in American history and one that borne Mrs. Lincoln. Ever since I was a wee one I have been fascinated by her life story – all of the twists and turns, agony, happiness and sometimes a sense of defeat I can somehow relate too. What I admire the most about her is her strength of character, being true to herself and mostly her love of her husband and children. Mary Todd was also a great cook and this is one of her favorite recipes. This cake is one that she made for Mr. Lincoln while they were courting and she also baked it during her stay in the White House. You can see the recipe here.
