My husband absolutely loves German Chocolate Cake. For his birthdays and really anytime I feel like being nice to him (which is most of the time!) I will supply him with his favorite dessert of all time. So today, in honor of my sweet (and very patient) husband, I will share with you my favorite recipe for German Chocolate Cake. This dessert is in honor of my Grandfather, Mario Marini. He was an Italian immigrant who loved America. His dream as a child in Florence was to move to America and to have a better life for his family. He loved America so much that at the age of 40 and with a wife and three daughters, he signed up to defend this great country of ours when we went to war – WWII – not knowing if he would ever return home. His love for America was truly remarkable and he would have done anything to protect and defend her at all costs. My grandmother Marini was a fine Italian cook and made almond biscotti a few times a year and I have been told these were my Grandpa’s favorites. Please click here for the recipe.

We attended a friends cookout / pool party this afternoon and decided to make something light, fruity and yummy. This is my very own concoction so no links to other recipes for this one – just my very own recipe that I will attach below. Like all of the things that I prefer to make – this one was easy and not complex. Within a matter of minutes your dessert is ready to eat! Enjoy one of my (and my hubby’s) all time favorites.
Summer Berry Trifle
16 oz Frozen Whipped Topping
32 oz Vanilla Yogurt
2 Sara Lee Pound Cakes
1 pkg Strawberries *
1 pkg Blueberries *
1 Hershey’s Chocolate Bar
Wash fruit, pat dry and set aside
Cut pound cake into squares
In a large bowl – mix whipped cream and yogurt
In a large glass bowl, layer the dessert (pound cake on the bottom, whipped topping / yogurt layer, fruit mixture and then repeat
Top layer should be whipped topping / yogurt layer and then add chocolate shavings
Its going to be near 100 degrees here in Kentucky today. I love summertime but feel like a wilted flower when it comes to the heat and humidity. Eagle Brand’s Lemon Icebox Pie is the perfect treat to have on a sweltering summer day. Lemons are incredibly refreshing and anything with the name “icebox” in it is a fan of mine today.
